  • What is mulberry silk?

    Mulberry silk is known for being the highest quality of silk available in the market. This luxurious silk originates from China and is produced by cultivated silkworms that are being fed exclusively with mulberry leaves.

    Mulberry silk strands are rounder, finer and smoother than the silk harvested from the silkworms from the wild. It is also 100% natural and hypoallergenic unlike the synthetic and silk blend varieties.    

    • What is the difference between silk and satin?

    Silk is a natural fiber used in fabrics. Most high-quality silk fabrics are made with long fiber silk and uses the charmeuse weave. This technique allows the silk to be woven in such a way that it brings out a smooth, lustrous and reflective quality on the front side while the back of the fabric has a dull finish.

    Satin is a type of weave (like charmeuse) and it does not refer to the actual fiber used. A satin woven fabric can be made using different types of synthetic or artificial fibers like polyester, nylon, rayon, etc. They may look a little like silk but the similarities end there. A satin's sheen is due to the way it is woven. The weave enhances the feel and look of the material. 

    • How to care for your silk pillowcase?

    Handwashing is the best and safest way for washing silk. 

    Prepare to wash your pillowcase by turning it inside out. Let your silk soak for a few minutes in a tub filled with water and a mild liquid detergent. Gently work the suds through the silk.

    When rinsing, run a cold water through the pillowcase until it is no longer soapy. To remove excess water, do not wring or twist the pillowcase. Instead, press the water out of it between your hands. 

    Hang your pillowcase to let it air dry and keep it away from direct sunlight.

    To keep your pillowcase wrinkle free, iron on the reverse side using the lowest setting while the pillowcase is a little bit damp. Remember to put a thin cotton cloth over the silk and do not let the iron directly contact the silk.

    • What is Oeko-Tex Standard 100?

    Oeko-Tex is an independent testing for textiles for harmful substances. It stands for costumer confidence and high product safety.

    A certification from Oeko-Tex Standard 100 means that every component of the product (thread, dyes and other accessories) to the finished fabrics and finished products has been tested for numerous regulated and non-regulated substances, which may be harmful to human health. This is to ensure that the final product is safe for the customer.
